What is going on here?

The American people are rightly screaming over $4.00 per gallon prices at the pump.

But what exactly are some of our so-called elected leaders in Washington doing about it?

Unfortunately, instead of working to reduce the burden on your pocketbook…

liberals and RINOs in Congress are actively and aggressively trying to RAISE THE PRICE OF GASOLINE!

That’s right!

Just last week, the Senate attempted to pass the Boxer Climate Tax bill, a deceptive piece of legislation that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged would raise the price of gasoline at the pump BY ANOTHER $1.40 a gallon!

McConnell summarized the economic consequences of the Boxer bill by saying:

“It is, at its heart, a stealth and giant tax on virtually every aspect of industrial and consumer life.  It would result in massive job losses.  And it seeks to radically alter consumer behavior, without any measurable benefit to the environment in return.”

“And that’s why it’s so hard to comprehend the Majority’s decision to move to a bill, at the start of the summer driving season, that would raise the price of gas by as much as $1.40 a gallon, home electricity bills by about 44 percent, and natural gas prices by about 20 percent.

“Overall, it’s expected to result in GDP losses totaling as much as $2.9 trillion by 2050.”

Who would be asked to bear that unbearable cost? The American people! And it’s not peanuts… we’re talking about a built-in future hit of approximately $29,000 for every single household in the United States!

Make no mistake… when it comes to giving relief to Americans who are suffering because of the high cost of gasoline, our so-called elected leaders could enact real legislative solutions RIGHT NOW!

The truth of the matter is: Congress could authorize tapping our nation’s vast domestic resources without harming the environment one bit.

But they are too busy trying to raise the price of gas instead — signaling once again how out of touch they are with the American people.

Let’s give them a wake up call — RIGHT HERE and RIGHT NOW!

Tell them you won’t be fooled by veiled attempts to raise taxes that are “packaged and sold” as energy policy. Tell them to get serious about reducing the price of gasoline now! Demand that they lift the constraints that have stopped the building of new refineries in the United States. Demand that they STOP BLOCKING environmentally safe oil and gas exploration in Alaska, the Outer Continental Shelf, the Bakken Formation, and a host of other places in the United States that are teeming with recoverable oil.

It’s Time for Congress to Act!

Did you know that gasoline costs 45 cents a gallon in Saudi Arabia, 35 cents in Iran, and less than a quarter in Venezuela?

Question: Why does gasoline cost so little in these countries and so much in the United States of America?

Answer: Because Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela harvest enough oil to take care of their own people… and AMERICA DOESN’T!

Indeed, Senator McConnell got it right when he stated:

“Now, of all times, is not the time to be increasing the burden on American consumers.  Now is the time to be considering overdue legislation that would send gas prices down, not up.”

In fact, President Bush has repeatedly called for opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and other areas of the United States to safe and responsible oil exploration.

Geologists tell us that ANWR sits on top of enough oil to give us the energy-independence we once enjoyed… independence we frittered away through years of cowardly kowtowing to radical environmentalists and their liberal friends in Congress.

Conservative estimates by the U.S. Geological Survey confirm that ANWR would produce at least 10.4 billion barrels of new oil

So what does that figure mean to us ordinary folks? It means the United States would have…

Enough oil to replace 30 years of imports from Saudi Arabia and 58 years of Iraqi oil!

Enough oil to run the District of Columbia, our nation’s Capital, for 1,704 years!

Enough oil to run 29 U.S. states for more than a century!

Enough oil to cut a major chunk out of the $150 BILLION the United States spends every year, buying oil from other countries — many of which are no friend of the United States.

And here’s the kicker:  Some experts predict the ANWR yield could run as high as 27 BILLION BARRELS!

So who’s stopping us?  Who’s holding us hostage?  It’s the Liberals and RINOs on Capitol Hill — frantically kissing the feet of radical environmental groups while the American people struggle to pay their gas bills.

But That’s Not All… Wait Until You Hear This!

The Minerals Management Service (MMS) recently completed an assessment of undiscovered technically recoverable resources (UTRR) underlying offshore waters on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The astounding result:

The MMS estimate found “that the quantity of undiscovered technically recoverable resources ranges from 66.6 to 115.3 billion barrels of oil and 326.4 to 565.9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.”

WOW!  That DWARFS the recoverable oil in ANWR!

And that’s not the end of the good news.

Another U.S. Geological Survey estimates that 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil lies under North Dakota and Montana in an area known as the Bakken Formation — that’s 25 times as many barrels as they originally thought.

But here comes the piece de resistance… wait until you hear this!

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich recently pointed out the following on his American Solutions website:

“With oil prices at an all-time high, Americans are facing escalating gas, diesel, and aircraft fuel increases. Oil prices are projected to increase further.”

“Congress, however, has made it illegal to develop vast domestic oil resources in large parts of the United States.

“The most startling Congressional prohibition on domestic oil production concerns the recently enacted ban on the development of oil shale resources in parts of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming in the Green River Formation. According to a Rand Study estimate, this reserve contains over one trillion barrels of oil, with 800 billion barrels fully recoverable, or three times the current oil reserves as Saudi Arabia.”   [Emphasis Mine]

You read that right!  According to Gingrich, Congress “HAS MADE IT ILLEGAL TO DEVELOP VAST DOMESTIC OIL RESOURCES…”

We’re in a crisis here and yet our elected leaders are asleep at the wheel!

They have the nerve to pursue never-ending dog-and-pony shows in their committees and wag fingers self-righteously at everyone else but themselves.

They have the nerve to propose new taxes — under the guise of sound energy policy — that will drive the price of gasoline up another $1.40 per gallon at the pump.

And yet they actively refuse to do what is really necessary to jumpstart our economy, lower the price at the pump and create jobs.  It’s as if they would rather see 300 million Americans go broke.

Question: Who’s Primarily Responsible For High Gas Prices?

A. Oil-producing nations?
B. Big Oil?
C. The U.S. Government?
D. American Consumers?

The answer is C… your elected representatives in Washington, who — terrified of Al Gore, radical environmental groups and the Chicken-Little media — have voted again and again and again to restrict drilling and refining wherever and whenever we find oil.

In fact, the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.

When Liberals took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the average price of gasoline in the United States was $2.33 per gallon.  That means, under Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi’s leadership, gas prices have skyrocketed a whopping $1.71 per gallon!

But is it fair to blame it all on the Liberal Congress?

Last month, the Senate held a vote on the American Energy Production Act of 2008 .  The legislation would have, among other things, allowed oil exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and in certain portions of the now-restricted areas of Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.  A total of 48 Democrats and a handful of RINO Senators mustered up 56 votes to defeat the legislation.

Did you know that gasoline prices have shot up 32 cents per gallon since that vote was held on May 13th?

And many of the same Senators who worked to defeat the American Energy Production Act have voted literally dozens of times against opening a tiny sliver of ANWR to responsible oil and gas exploration.

And Majority Leader Reid had the gall to say this recently:

“We have tried to do some legislating on gas prices and we’ve been thwarted at every possible step. Again, how?  With Republican filibusters.”

Is he serious?  Does he really believe his own nonsense or does he just take the American people for granted?

He actually blames the minority party for not going along with his attempts to raise gas prices through tax increases and unnecessary regulation as the reason gas prices are high?

And we thought we had heard it all.

It is time to pressure Congress to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil.  It is time to increase domestic production, which will jumpstart our struggling economy.

The American people will not tolerate attempts to revert back to the failed energy policies of the past.

It’s time for real energy solutions.

Please join us in sending that message loud and clear.
